If SEO has you in a panic, take a few deep breaths and read on! Here’s our beginners guide and 10 simple tips to improve your SEO. You know SEO is important, but SEO can often become complicated and confusing, particularly if you’re a complete beginner.

Here are 10 simple tips to improve your SEO…

1. Make sure your keywords are key words

When it comes to keywords it can be tempting to use every word under the sun that vaguely relates to your business. Unfortunately, this strategy won’t work. To boost your ranking, you need to create a targeted list of keywords.

2. Spring clean your page structure

If you’ve been a little lax about keeping your page structure neat and tidy, now is the perfect time to go back and whip things into shape. Every page should have a clear structure, and you should make the most of headers, bold lettering, and anchor text.

3. Make the most of metadata

You’ll notice each page of your site has a space between the <head> tags. This is where your metadata goes. Metadata is just a short simple description of what’s on the page. It’s simple to fill in and it will go a long way to improve your SEO.

4. Optimise your images

Images are a great way to give your website some added interest. Images with keywords in, the file name, title, description, and caption boost your SEO. It signals to Google that your content is relevant.

5. Link, link, link

Including links in your blog posts is a great way to improve your webpage rankings. The key here is to make sure you only link to high authority websites. You need links both in and out. (check out guest posts later).

6. Branch out into other media

Including a mix of media – text, images, and video – signals to Google that you’ve taken the time and effort to make your content relevant and engaging. So, including different forms of media can pay dividends.

7. Create a contact form

There’s evidence to suggest that including contact information signals that your site is trustworthy. Creating a ‘contact us’ page with your details, and a way for potential customers to get in touch, will not only boost your SEO but increase your chance of conversions too!

8. Guest posts

Guest posting on blogs is a simple way to gain links back to your site, thereby boosting your ranking. You can also do it the other way round too – consider inviting businesses or bloggers to post on your site to increase high authority links.

9. Ditch the duplicates

Duplicating content is one of the cardinal sins of SEO. If you’ve used webpage text in a blog, or copied info from one section to another, you should definitely get rid!

10. Regular updates

The number one, golden rule of good SEO is to update your site regular. Posting new, engaging content at regular intervals shows that your site is relevant and up to date.
