Why Small Business Need a Website, Not Just Social Media

Why your business needs a website, not just social media

In today’s digital age, many small businesses rely heavily on social media to establish their online presence. While social media is undoubtedly a powerful tool for connecting with customers, it shouldn’t be your only online strategy. Although when you are just starting out, it might not seem like a priority, here are eight reasons why having a dedicated website is so important

1. You Own Your Website, and you are in control!

Unlike social media profiles, you have complete control over your website. Social platforms can change their algorithms and policies or even shut down your profile without notice, potentially destroying your online presence. Your website belongs to you, giving you stability and control. Don’t (and I can’t say this loud enough!) build your business on rented land!

2. Professionalism and Credibility

You can’t beat a well-designed website for lending credibility to your business. It shows potential customers that you’re established and serious about your business. Many consumers expect businesses to have websites and may be sceptical of those that don’t. Am I the only one who checks out a website as one of the first things I do (although maybe it is because I do what I do?)

3. Better Search Engine Visibility

Google is still the most used search engine in the world, with a mobile market share of 95.32% and a desktop market share of 81.95%. (Statista). Without a website, your chances of being found by search engines are very low.

When potential customers search for products or services you offer, a well-optimised website is more likely to appear in search results than a social media profile.

4. E-commerce Capabilities

If you sell products, a website can serve as your online store. While some social platforms offer social selling shopping features, a dedicated e-commerce website provides more flexibility and customisation options. Also, many consumers still don’t want to make purchases through social media. In Hubspot’s Consumer Trends survey, consumers don’t fully trust social shopping. Just 47% of social media users feel comfortable buying through social apps, with the main concern being that companies aren’t legitimate.

5. Analytics and Insights

Although you can get lots of data from social sites, your website can provide powerful analytics that can help you better understand your audience. You can track visitor behaviour, popular pages, and conversion rates, allowing you to make data-driven decisions to improve your online strategy.

6. Establishing Your Brand Presence.

Your website can be the central hub for all your marketing efforts and establishing your brand. You can direct traffic from social media, email campaigns, and other channels to your website, where you have more control over the user experience and conversion process.

7. Long-Form Content

Blogs, case studies, and other long-form content are best hosted on a website. This type of content can significantly boost your SEO efforts and establish your authority in your industry. Check out this info here for more info on Content marketing for SEO.

Conclusion

While social media remains integral to your online strategy, a dedicated website is essential for establishing a strong, professional online presence. It gives you control, credibility, and the ability to provide comprehensive information to your customers.
